Mara turned 19 months old yesterday. She mimics everything we say and everything we do! It can be funny at times–hysterically funny–and it can be a little frightening too!
Here, Mara recites the pledge of allegiance, with help from Mommy:
Mommy: “I pledge allegiance . . . ”
Mara: “Wee-jis” (legiance)
Mommy: “to the flag”
Mara: “thlaaa” (flag)
Mommy: “Of the United States”
Mara: “Tase” (states)
Mommy: “of America”
Mara: “Mayo-wih” (‘merica)
Mommy: “. . . and to the republic. . .”
Mara: “Pub-wic”
Mommy: ” . . . for which it stands. .? .”
Mara: “DAN!!!!!” (quite emphatically; “st” sounds are always “d”s–“store” = door; “star” = “dar”)
Mommy: “. . . one nation. .? .”
Mara: “Nay-none”
Mommy: “Under God. . .”
Mara: “Dawwwww” (This is how she says “God,” and she says it dramatically, with eyes wide, as if gravely important)
Mommy: “Indivisible. . .”
Mara: “do-wid-do-wool”
Mommy: “With liberty . . . ”
Mara: “Ter-tee”
Mommy: “And Justice. . .”
Mara: “Dus-dis”
Mommy: “For all.”
Mara: “AWWWWWWL!”
