Wow! A Pair of Jack And Lily Shoes for Micah!

Cent Saving Mom over at www.morethancents.info recently hosted a “review and giveaway” of a pair of Jack and Lily shoes!

I entered the contest–as I enter many contests!–thinking ‘that would be cool,’ but not really expecting to win. . .

JackandLilyShoesFor our entry, we had to go to the website and select our favorite pair of shoes. (How fun!)

I totally loved all the shoes, and it was a hard decision, because I imagined my 2yo daughter, the girly-girl, who wants to take home every cute pair of shoes she lays eyes on (including asking strangers if she can take their shoes home).

But then there is my 13-mo-old son. He has never had–and really needs–a pair of quality shoes that will stay on his active little feet while he’s learning to walk! So I decided to go with the “Jack and Lily brown solid (524)’A solid classic’ A modern take on a classic. A solid brown shoe with pipe stitch on upper and strap. Black sole.”  So handsome. For my little man. And he wouldn’t even care while my daughter (if she knew) would be soooo disappointed I didn’t pick a pair for her. . .

Well, tonight I got the e-mail! and read the contest results:

“Congratulations are in order to a lucky MTC reader who had just as much trouble deciding which pair of Jack and Lily shoes were her favorites as I did! Not only did our lucky winner have to pick her favorite pair she had to decide if she should choose shoes for her son or daughter. In the end she decided to go with these classic brown shoes with pipe stiching for her son who is learning to walk. I’m sure this lil’ man who will soon be on the go will look great sporting these soles.”

I couldn’t believe it!! Micah is going to have his own little pair of Jack and Lily shoes!! I ordered 18-24 month size to be sure he hasn’t already grown out of them. Besides, these will be perfect for fall and winter!

So this is just an encouragement to enter those giveaways  . . . you just never know!

“Did You Buy A House?!?!”

Well, our friends Chris and Melissa are officially first-time homeowners! I watched their boys Corban and Carson during the closing on Friday.

Mara and Corban were napping in Mara’s room when Chris and Melissa got back.

Mara stood up in her crib and with intense enthusiasm asked, “Uncle ‘Dis, did you buy a house?!?! And did Melissa buy a house?!?!?!”

Chris laughed. “Yes, we did!”

Mara went running to the top of the stairs and, peering down the steps, she paused in anticipation, as if she fully expected to see the house down there.

Then in a hushed voice, she asked, “Where’s the house?”

I guess she thought buying a house was like buying groceries. You bring it in and set it next to the coffee table! LOL!

I explained to her that it was down the street, and we would go see it sometime.

So when Daniel came home, she said, “Daddy! ‘Dis and Melissa bought a house! And it’s down the street!”

We’re all excited about it! Congratulations, Chris and Melissa!

“Say ‘Dinosaur’!!”

There is a Clifford episode where Clifford and friends dig up dinosaur bones, and once the dinosaur is all set up, they all stand in front of it for a picture. Someone says, “Say ‘dinosaur’!” and they snap the picture.

Mara loves re-enacting major sections of Clifford episodes, and Daniel found Mara after her nap, having lined up all her animalsDinoDiggerLineup

(Left to Right): Perkle Bear, Puppy Dog, Pink Bear, Ballerina, Yellow Bear, My Little Lucy, and Blue Bear.

Mara was saying, “Say ‘dine-a-door’!” and then laughing hysterically. DinosaurLaughing

She thought she was pretty funny! (And quite frankly, we did too!)

Thrift Store Finds!

I love thrift store shopping! Last week Daniel was watching Mara for about an hour, so I just had Micah with me. Thrift store shopping is much easier with one child, than two! I spent about $11 and found:

  • A beach chair for Mara (I have been looking for one of these, since she loved using one at the lake, and we are going to spend a week at the shore in July. They were $10 at Target!)
  • A pair of new Crocs-style shoes for Mara for this fall
  • A Playskool boat (with people!!) for Micah
  • 12-mo size navy blue shorts for Micah (For some reason, most of his 12-18M shorts seem to fall off, but I know he wears 12M in this brand.)
  • A little wooden truck painted in primary colors for Micah’s room
  • 3 unpainted 8×10 wooden frames for decorating Micah’s room (which I was looking for!! I will paint them red after my free quart of Glidden paint arrives in a few weeks!)
  • A black bag with lime green trim to carry kid stuff in

MaraBeachChairSilverwareMara already found a use for her beach chair–making her “chores” easier. I suppose this reflects either laziness or genius, though I’m not sure which. (Daniel says there’s a fine line between the two.) She can now sit and sort the silverware coming out of the dishwasher, before she puts it away!PutAwaySilverwareMara She still has to stand though when she puts the silverware away in the drawer.

Of course, Micah loved his new toy boat! He sat and played with it in the thrift store, and since we don’t have a lot of “boy” toys, I figured it was something especially for him. 🙂 He’s getting so big! He’s not a baby anymore . . .  I love him, my little Micah-man! MicahNewBoatThriftStore

Micah discovered his “tongue” over the past few days, so he goes around sticking out his tongue, rubbing his tongue across his teeth, pulling on his tongue. . . BigBrownEyes

But the reason I like this picture is because of his big brown eyes! 🙂
