Random Familyness

Today Mara saw her first rainbow! It was a gorgeous double rainbow, and you could almost see the entire semi-circle! We talked about Noah and the flood, and more importantly, the promises of God!

Today was also Micah’s last Synagis shot. He weighed 19 lbs., 3 0zs., and he will be 10 months old tomorrow. He had to get 125 mg of Synagis, so the dr did one shot in each leg.  He had a fussy day. . . just cried no matter what. . .

The Gymboree hats I ordered on eBay for the kids came on yesterday. Mara loves her hat–she wanted to wear it all day–to the park, to the grocery store, around the house, on the potty! And finally a hat that fits Micah’s “super-size” head!! It is navy blue, with a green turtle on front–SOO cute! Size 12-24 months, but Daniel doesn’t think it will fit more than a month or so. . . As long as it lasts through our trip to Florida in May! I will buy him a toddler hat for the rest of the summer.

We blew bubbles. LOTS of bubbles. Mara screamed and squealed. And we met the neighbor boy Anthony. He is four. We gave him some bubbles too. And he screamed and squealed!

Then Mara saw the moon.

Daniel was holding her, and she stretched her little arms high over her head and, with the enthusiasm that only a child can muster, she said, “Iss too high! I can’t reach it! . . . Mommy, take me up! Less get the moon and take it inside!” She was motioning with huge gestures as if she were carrying the moon inside the house all by herself.

“And then we’ll bring it out–and throw it back up in the sky!!” she pretended to throw it back, and beamed a smile spectacular enough to go along with such an amazing feat.

And I reflected . . . I’m not sure, but I think that is what childlike faith is all about.

Saving $$: Potty Training!!

One of my money-saving goals for the next two months is to get Mara potty trained.

That alone will save us about $40/month in diapers (not to mention the space in the landfills). She has been doing great!

We have . . . (and, by the way, this list also doubles as “Things I Thought I Would Never Do . . .”)

Well, it’s finally starting to pay off!

It is Friday afternoon, and we have not had an accident or a wet or dirty diaper since Wednesday afternoon! That includes 2 nights and 2 naps!

Mara runs around the house waving her hands in the air and singing, “No more biapers any more! No more biapers any more!”  (I think that’s from Potty Power, but I’m not sure, since I never watched the DVD all the way through.)

I’m not expecting perfection. I know there will be more accidents. 🙂 But I’m thinking: we’re on our way to saving $40 a month!
